Nostalgia is a GOLEM upgrade.png GOLEM Upgrade that replaces the Swap Bar with the Swap Timer system.

Effects

The Swap Timer activated by the Nostalgia upgrade (at the time of death). The Lockout Bar is the solid red bar with the chain graphic, and the Timer Bar is made up of the black wires, turning red as time passes.
  • The Swap Bar is replaced with a different core system for handling swapping called the Swap Timer.
    • The Swap Timer is made up of two components, the Timer Bar and Swap Lockout Bar.
    • The Timer Bar takes 12 seconds to count down to the end of the bar, at which time the current host will be instantly killed.
    • The Swap Lockout Bar will prevent the player from swapping until the timer has moved past the lockout meter. The lockout will start at 1 second, and every swap(pre-mortem or post mortem) will add 2 seconds to the bar, capping at 11 seconds. Every kill will reduce the lockout duration by 0.5 seconds, and the bar cannot be reduced below 1 second.
    • If the player is killed before the timer passes the lockout period, the run will end.
      • If the player dies from the time running out and is unable to find a host to swap to, the run will also end.
    • Entering a new stage will reset the timer, but not the lockout bar.

Tips

  • Make sure to keep an eye on the timer and swap long before you are killed and put in a risky situation.
  • When facing the last enemy in an encounter, make sure to check your timer. If the timer is sufficiently high, consider swapping to the final enemy to preserve your run.

Trivia

  • Nostalgia is unlocked after beating the Level1boss icon.png CPU 10 times, and is the final GOLEM upgrade to unlock.
  • Nostalgia is the only "meme upgrade" among the GOLEM upgrades, and is the only GOLEM upgrade that is intended to make the game more difficult.
  • The name of the upgrade and its description are a reference to the fact that the Swap Timer system is the core system of the original game-jam version of RAM.
